What is a Parent Mentor?

A Parent Mentor is a parent of a child with hearing loss who has an understanding of some of the issues that may face your family.

All Parent Mentors have completed an intensive training programme on supporting families with a child diagnosed with a hearing loss.

Parent Mentors help families to learn and understand in what can be an emotional journey following a hearing loss diagnosis.

How does it Work?

Families can be referred to Beacon NZ by their Audiologist, Advisor on Deaf Children or through self-referral. After this contact, a mentor is matched to your family. The mentor will contact you and discuss ways to best work together. This can happen through:

  • Face to face meetings
  • Telephone calls
  • Video conferencing calls
  • Email
